Most watches use one of three simple mechanisms. Pick yours and follow along.
Flip the watch over. Between the strap and the lugs you'll see a thin spring bar with a small notch.
Slide the notch inward with a fingernail or the tip of the tool to compress the spring bar.
The strap releases instantly. To fit the new one, seat one side, compress, and let the pin click in.
On the back of the strap, near the lug, there's a small raised quick-release button.
Push the button and hold. This retracts the pin holding the strap to the case.
Lift the strap away. Click the new one back on — release the button and it locks in place.
On an Apple Watch, press and hold the band-release button on the back of the case.
With the button held, slide the strap sideways out of the channel. It glides right out.
Line up the new strap and slide it into the channel until you feel and hear a click.
And if you ever need to shorten your steel strap, it couldn't be easier.
Tool-free — only by hand. No machines, no watch shops. Let's do it at home!

On the back of the strap there's a small button. Just push it to the side with your finger.

While it's held to the side, pull the link away. It separates cleanly, right in your hand.

A little care goes a long way. Here's how to keep each material at its best.

Hand-wash gently with soap and cool water, then air-dry away from direct heat. Don't wring it out.
Keep it dry — wipe with a slightly damp cloth, never soak. A little leather conditioner keeps it supple.
Wipe with a soft cloth. Clean links with mild soapy water and a soft brush, then dry fully to avoid spots.
Wipe with a soft damp cloth. Scratch-resistant but can chip if dropped on a hard surface — handle with care.
Take it off before swimming in salt water or using strong cleaners, and store it away from direct sunlight.
